JR : ART TO CHANGE THE WORLD
JR owns the biggest art gallery in the world. And his life is like no other: when he isn’t working on his collages on top of a New York or Parisian building, he’s working with Robert de Niro, he’s in a studio with U2, he’s creating a poster with David Lynch or having lunch with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. Following him on Instagram allows you to share a piece of his incredible routine!
From the start of his carrier, JR travels across Europe to meet the ones that express themselves on the walls and facades that structure the cities. Observing the people he meets and listening to their message, he sticks their portraits in the streets, the basements and the rooftops of Paris.
Among all of these fascinating projects the most striking one is definitely “Inside Out”: an international collective art project that allows people all over the world to receive their portrait and then stick it to support an idea, a project, an action and to share this experience. JR creates an “infiltrating art” that is put up on buildings in the Parisian suburbs, on walls in the Middle East, on broken bridges in Africa or in Brazilian favelas. During the collage act, communities are a part of the artistic process. After the local exhibitions in the towns where JR’s portrait models originate from, the images travel from New York to Berlin, from Amsterdam to Paris, and each one can interpret them in light of their own experiences.
